Question 17 : Assalamualaikum Shaikh,
I understand that the 17th of Ramadan is the day that the Quran was sent down to the Prophet. However is there any evidence that supports this? And is it according to the Sunnah to celebrate this day with special duas?
Answer: Walaikumussalam Brother ,
Do you have a typo in the date? I am not aware of 17th that you mentioned. What I am aware of is that Allah said, إنا أنزلناه في ليلة القدر meaning “Indeed We have sent it down on the Laylatul Qadr.” Surah 97, verse 1. So, what I know is the Quran was begun to be revealed on Laylatul Qadr. It is not certain that Laylatul Qadr is on a specific date every year, except that it is in one of last ten nights of Ramadan; though one opinion is that it was on 27th of Ramadan. This is what I know. Hope this answer the question Brother.
