Description of Hell Webinar Concluding Report

Nothing is worse than becoming a loser on the Day of Judgment and being thrown into Hellfire. Reflecting over the descriptions of Hell not only builds our Iman in Allah (SWT), but moreover helps strengthens our resolve to stay away from the things that will lead us into the Hellfire.

We learnt in the webinar that the Hellfire is the abode for people who failed their test in this world. The vastness of Hell is brought to our realisation from the authentic sources describing it as being dragged forth to the Field of Resurrection on the Day of Judgment by 70,000 ropes, each rope pulled by 70,000 angels. Subhanallah!

Just as there are different levels in Paradise, there are also different levels and the degree of punishment and heat in Hell varies depending on the person’s kufr and their actions. We seek refuge in Allah from even being brought close to it! Those who will be in the lowest depths of Hell are the hypocrites.

“Indeed, the hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire – and never will you find for them a helper.” (An-Nisa’ 4:145)

The one who will receive the lightest punishment in Hellfire is as described according the the Hadith of Prophet (SAW),

“The person who will have the least punishment from amongst the Hell Fire people on the Day of Resurrection, will be a man under whose arch of the feet a smoldering ember will be placed so that his brain will boil because of it.”  Sahih Bukhari

We can see that even the lightest punishment of Hell is intolerable, let alone anything greater. Nothing in this world can ever be replaced as a ransom to the people of Hell.

“Indeed, those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers – never would the [whole] capacity of the earth in gold be accepted from one of them if he would [seek to] ransom himself with it. For those there will be a painful punishment, and they will have no helpers.”  (Ali-Imran 3:91)

Normally, we would get so much benefit from the food that we eat in this world. It gives us nourishment and strength for us to get through the day. On top of that, we get the satisfaction, enjoyment and pleasure from eating.

If we look at the food of the people of Hellfire, it is totally the opposite. It neither nourishes nor strengthens. They find no pleasure, no enjoyment and it does not give them any satisfaction from their hunger. Moreover, it is a torment, a punishment for them.

“Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqoom (a horrible tree in Hell)?  Truly We have made it (as) a trail for the wrong-doers.  Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils; Truly, they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith.  Then on the top of that they will be given boiling water to drink so that it becomes a mixture (of boiling water and Zaqqoom in their bellies).  Then thereafter, their return is to the flaming fire of Hell.”  (As-Saffat 37:62-68)

“So no friend has he here this Day, Nor has he any food except filth from the washing of wounds.  None will eat it except the sinners and disbelievers”  (Al-Haqqah 69:35-37)  (Al-Hajj 22:19)

All of these torments and punishments that are described in the Quran and Hadith give us a reality check. They make us come back to Allah, and have the endurance and perseverance to continue with the guidance of Allah (SWT) and to follow it to the best of our ability.

For us to save ourselves from the Hellfire is to stay from Shirk, to have Iman in Allah and to do righteous actions as is said in the Quran and Hadith,

“Verily, those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them will be Gardens under which rivers flow.  That is the great success.” ( Al-Buruj 85:11)

“By Allah, Allah will never throw one who loves Him and whom He loves into the Hellfire.” (Musnad Ahmed, Mustadrak al-Hakim)

One of the greatest ways we can get the mercy of Allah (SWT) is by following the way, the Sunnah of the Prophet (SAW), striving to know that which is right, as opposed to things that people claim to be from Islam but actually not a part of Islam at all.

May Allah save us from Hell!
