I have three questions relating to Zakat; I’d be much obliged if you could answer them for me please: Question 1: A brother is purchasing a property on interest-free instalment basis. The agreed amount was $140,000 paid within 5 years, out of which he has paid $100,000 already. He has $40,000 remaining to be paid by this time next year. The question is, does he have to pay Zakat on the portion/share of land that he now owns? That is, the $100,000 value he now holds. There is a brother overseas whose son suffers from a rare condition. The family is known to us, so we know that they’re genuinely in need of help with the expenses. Can we use Zakat for that? Question 3: A brother owns an investment property which he rents out. The question is: does he pay Zakat on the $24,000 rent that he receives per annum, or on the value of the house, which is about $500,000? May Allah have mercy on you and your family. I have a question re intermittent fasting. In the community, one of the ways to burn fat really quickly is through intermittent fasting. So essentially, what intermittent fasting is: a fast of food for a period between 12-14 hrs (some more than that). One may drink water during the periods of fasting. So by doing so, one can have more portions of food during the feeding periods instead of having to eat smaller portions of food throughout the day to reduce fat. Such fasts last as long as u see results. So there are no determined length of fast. It is all on the individual. My question is, is such practice allowed in Islam since it is not so similar to a fast in Ramadan?   For Complete Answer Click here[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Q67. I have a question regarding financial transaction. In a company sometimes we make advance payment either it’s to employee as salary advance or to supplier as advance payment for future goods or service. Is this advance considered as loan? I know that every benefit taken from a loan is riba. Then are we allowed to have terms and condition to the loan?

For example, a company may give salary advance to an employee. The company then ask the employee to work overtime to pay the salary advance. Another example to supplier. The company may ask the supplier to supply the goods in certain time period maybe faster then the usual time.

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabaraktuh ya Shaykhs. I hope this question finds you in the best of health.

A brother told me that some of the products he used such as soap or shampoo contain ingredients from animals and that it was haram. He threw them away and advised me to do the same. I notice this happens often with other people and they declare goods/products to be haram without consulting scholars and just search for it on the internet.

For example, if they believe that goods such as juice, bread or other consumables may contain haram ingredients which are not so clear cut, they will immediately warn others so that they do not consume haram themselves. Their intention may have been good, but is this unintentionally spreading fitnah? They or the people they are advising may not have enough knowledge themselves regarding halal and haram to come up with their own verdict.

I might be mistaken but I learnt from class that if we had any doubts or if something is a grey area we should refer to a scholar first before telling others about it. Does that apply to this situation as well? Or is this a small matter that we can just google the ingredients ourselves to see if they are haram/halal and warn others about it.

JazakAllahu khairan barakAllahu feek.
